In December 1945, a US Navy Bomber squadron disappeared. The famous flight 19 was on a routine training flight on December 5th 1945. The five avengers were flown by experienced students and led by Lieutenant Charles Taylor. About two hours into the mission, Taylor reported that both his compasses had failed and he was unable to pinpoint his position or that of his base. For some reason, rather than follow the accepted practice and head west, judging the heading from the position of the sun, Taylor turned east, leading the flight further out to sea. The five planes and 14 men were never heard of again and a rescue plane sent to look for them exploded in mid-air killing its 13 crew members.
A Navy Cargo vessel called the Cyclops disappeared in 1918 with 306 people on board.
Dakota number NC16002 disappeared on January 28 1948
In 1963, the S.S Marine Sulphur Queen, a tanker carrying 15000 tons of Molten sulphur was sailing to Norfolk Virginia from Beaumont Texas. Her last reported position on February 3rd put her off Key West in the Florida Straits(in the triangle) but she was never heard of again
In December 1970, pilot Bruce Gernon was flying with his father to Bimini under perfectly clear skies when they encountered a strangely symmetrical cloud floating over the Florida coastline.
As they approached it the cloud changed shape and seemed to spread out to keep pace with them. The cloud then formed a tunnel along which the plane was forced to fly.
Inside the walls were covered with spinning patterns and the plane’s navigational instruments went haywire. Contacting Miami air traffic control, Gernon was told there were no planes on its radar.
Minutes later, the cloud dispersed, revealing that the plane was directly over Miami, half an hour earlier than it should have been able to reach it, making Gernon believe they had travelled in time.
A popular theory put forward for the mysterious goings-on in this part of the ocean is that it is the location of the legendary lost city of Atlantis.
Famed psychic Edgar Cayce claimed that archaeologists would one day find the entrance to the drowned city near Bimini and they did indeed find a stone formation resembling a road there in 1968.
According to legend, Atlantis was powered by mysterious crystals and some believe that these still rest on the seabed, sending out waves of energy that destroy ships and planes.
Formations of deep, blue coloured water in the midst of islands or shallow water close to the shore, paranormal researchers believe that blue holes are the remains of wormholes.
UFO lovers say aliens used these blue holes to cross the dimensions and travel to earth. Some now believe these holes may account for the disappearances in the area.
A slightly more plausible explanation has been posited by scientists at the University of Cardiff who discovered large pockets of methane gas trapped in the seabed of the Bermuda Triangle.
If one of these pockets of gas ruptured and rose suddenly to the surface, the water beneath it would lose its buoyancy meaning any ship trapped in the area would founder without warning and end up buried on the seafloor.
